The 8th International Symposium on Antimicrobial Agents and Resistance was held in Seoul, Korea from April 6-6, 2011. We had a small booth to exhibit the current electronic and print editions of The Sanford Guide. Bob Mollering, one of our longtime editors, presented the keynote address on treatment options for highly resistant organisms.
Though 2,000 had registered to attend what was a fine scientific program, actual attendance was less, no doubt due to the continuing situation in Japan in the aftermath of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. The English-language Seoul newspaper ran daily stories fueling fears of radioactive rain, sold out stocks of potassium iodide and banned vegetables.

ICAAC 2010

We launched our new web edition -- Sanford Guide Online -- at ICAAC in Boston on September 12, 2010. Thanks to all of you who came by the booth and took time to try out the new edition. We look forward to meeting next year in Chicago.

ECCMID 2010

Thanks to all of you who came by our booth at ECCMID in Vienna. We enjoyed talking with you, showing you the newest editions of the Sanford Guide, including an early version of our new web edition. We look forward to meeting again in Milan in 2011.

LONDON BOOK FAIR 2010

Our booth at the 2010 London Book Fair was empty -- as were many others -- due to the flight groundings that resulted from the volcanic eruption in Iceland. Instead of a short flight from Budapest to London, we had an odyssey across Europe as did so many other travelers we encountered along the way. With two other stranded Brits, we hired a van and driver in Budapest and drove across the continent to Paris -- 14.5 hours across Hungary, Austria, Southern Germany and Eastern France. In Paris, the Gare du Nord was mobbed; Eurostar trains to London were booked for days out. We were able to secure tickets, but for travel a week later -- 2 days after the close of the book fair.

We hope for better results in 2011.

ECCMID 2009

We travelled to Helsinki, FInland in April for the 19th European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID). Thank you to all whom came by our booth. We were pleased to see both old friends and new acquaintances. We will attend the 20th ECCMID in Vienna in 2010. See you there.

ICAAC 2009

We rolled out a brand-new booth at ICAAC in San Francisco in 2009. Thanks to all of you who came by to visit. It is always a pleasure to see friends, colleagues, acquaintances and new faces at the booth.

2010 HIV/AIDS Guide

The Sanford Guide to HIV/AIDS Therapy 2010 is scheduled for release in early November. The HIV/AIDS Guide has been extensively revised and updated. In addition to the most up-to-date recommendations, the format is more user-friendly. The table on diagnostic tests has been completely reworked and is much improved. The antiretroviral therapy table has been similarly reworked for better usability and updated to reflect the latest recommendations in the ever-changing field.
